Apple Spice cake recipe

Apple cake ingredient

  • 1 lb (450 g) Granny smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 5 tbsp (75 ml) water
  • juice of ½ lemon
  • ¾ cup (185 ml) butter
  • ½ cup (125 ml) brown sugar
  • 3 ½ cups (875 ml) whole-wheat flour
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) baking soda
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp (2.5 ml) ground nutmeg
  • ½ tsp (2.5 ml) ground mace
  • ¼ tsp (1 ml) ground cloves
  • 1 cup (250 ml) chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup (250 ml) chopped dates
  • 1/3 cup (85 ml) raisins
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) chopped walnuts
  • ½ tsp (2.5 ml) cinnamon

  1. Cook apples over low heat in water and lemon juice until soft. Mash with wooden spoon. Leave to cool.
  2. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Sift flour with baking soda and spices into creamed mixture. Stir in, along with walnuts, dates, raisins, apple and milk. Spoon into greased 5 x 13 inch (12 x 33 cm) loaf pan.

To Prepare Topping :
Combine topping ingredients. Sprinkle over cake. Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 1 ¼ to 1 ½ hours. Leave Apple Spice cake to rest in pan for 15 minutes. Turn out onto a wire rack to cool.
